What 'verified' actually means on HostelSansar - the real checks a listing goes through before it's shown to students and travelers.
"Verified" gets used loosely across a lot of listing platforms, sometimes meaning little more than "someone filled out a form." On HostelSansar, a verified badge means something more specific.
What gets checked before a listing goes live
- The hostel actually exists at the stated address. Not just plausible-sounding — confirmed.
- Contact details are real and responsive. A listing with a phone number or WhatsApp contact that doesn't actually reach anyone doesn't stay unverified.
- Photos match reality. Stock images or photos of a different property don't pass review.
- Gender policy and room types are accurately stated. A listing claiming to be a girls hostel, or offering specific seater types, has that confirmed rather than taken on faith.
- Pricing is checked against our standard seater-based structure, so a listing's stated price for a four-seater, three-seater, two-seater, or single room reflects something consistent and comparable across the platform.
What verification doesn't cover
To be direct about the limits: verification confirms a listing is real and accurately described at the time of review — it isn't a live, ongoing inspection of daily conditions. Things can change after a listing goes live (management, cleanliness standards, specific room conditions), which is exactly why a personal visit before committing is still worth doing, verified badge or not.
Why zero commission matters here too
HostelSansar doesn't take a cut of what you pay a hostel, and hostels don't pay to be featured or ranked higher. That matters for verification specifically: there's no financial incentive pushing a listing through review faster or looser than it should be.
